Buy Now, Pay Later: A critical review of the system and its implementation based on an analysis on currently working countries and based on a consumer survey.

Even though the Buy Now, Pay Later system is strongly criticized by several researchers on several aspects. The concept has many advantages and has a significant growth curve. This thesis will seek to understand what the underlying drivers of this payment method are. This is addressed following three steps. (i) Presenting a theoretical review on the topic, (ii) a study case clustered on five countries, (iii) a consumer preference survey. The conclusions of the research are (i) a lack of theoretical framework when assessing its global implementation (ii) effect of stress period and shifting trend in payment methods driving the attraction towards the BNPL system. (iii) a product specific attraction.
