Catalan independence is not a one-off issue in Spain's recent history. In 2017, it is the fifth attempt at Catalan independence since 1492. Therefore, we are facing a structural problem. In recent years, Catalonia's independence process, known as "trial", has occupied most of the public debate. Today, after many acts of hostility to the Spanish constitution and the institutions that represent the rule of law, there is still a latent problem in our society that seems to have no solution. The purpose of this work is to analyze the origin of the pro-independence boom, what's their characteristics and consequences. Emphasizing the chronological and detailed foundations and history of Catalan populism from 2010 to 2017 and its economic consequences in the Catalan and Spanish society.
