Auwers, Jean-Marie
[UCL]
A. summarizes and analyzes the evidence of the manuscripts of the Old Latin (OL) of the Book of Tobit. He first presents the sixteen witnesses for the direct tradition (9th to 12th cents.) and gives some examples of extreme divergence among these manuscripts. Then he turns to the indirect tradition as found, e.g., in liturgical books and quotations in patristic literature. A. closes with remarks about the OL as a witness for the long Greek recension of the Book of Tobit (G[II], Sinaiticus). By way of appendixes to his article, A. provides lists of manuscripts with Old Latin and Non-Vulgate texts of the Book of Tobit organized according to various criteria, e.g., geographical provenance.
