There has been plenty of discussion on the origin and nature of the Peleset, a group of warriors depicted on the Medinet Habu temple of Ramesses III. If the ethnonym should be read as pulasti or poulasti, as has been suggested, a link may be made with the toponym Pylos/Pyla and a Linear B reading of the ethnonym *pu-ra-wa-tu/Pyla-wastu is proposed. This could then imply that the Peleset may have had a link with the Bronze Age settlement of Pyla on Cyprus, occupied and deserted precisely in the time span described by the Medinet Habu reliefs.
