This paper aims to present a first census of the wall paintings from the ancient Ager Tusculanus, which corresponds roughly to the modern territories of Frascati, Grottaferrata and Monte Porzio Catone (Latium). A large number of paintings have been found in this area, dating between the first century BC and the third century AD. Most of these have never been published; however, they all attest to the high social status of the patrons in the area. Indeed, the Ager Tusculanus is well-known for the large number of monumental villae built from the Republican period onwards. This paper will present a synthetic and complete overview of the known painted decorations, analysing both in situ and fragmentary paintings.
