Šutruk-Nahhunte II (717-699 BC) is an early Neo-Elamite king, belonging to the first Neo-Elamite dynasty, whose reign is attested in Elamite as well as Mesopotamian sources. He is described as the nephew (mār aḫātišu) of his predecessor Huban-nikaš I, with a paternal lineage that goes back to the Šutrukid dynasty. During his long reign of 18 years, Šutruk-Nahhunte II was mostly occupied with defending Elam’s border against the Neo-Assyrian expansion policy. In the north, Šutruk-Nahhunte II was involved in the Ellipean succession war, while he participated in the southern Babylonian-Elamite coalition to limit Assyrian presence in the Persian Gulf region.
