The preventive regular intravenous administration of factor VIII (FVIII) or IX (FIX) concentrates has been the reference and validated treatment of persons with haemophilia (PWH) for several decades. Despite this reality, many candidates for this treatment modality, including PWH from developed countries with unrestricted access to concentrates, are not treated prophylactically.1 Moreover, prophylaxis is not totally effective, as reflected by the significant proportion of PWH on prophylaxis who develop haemarthroses and disabling haemophilic arthropathy, especially of the ankles.
