Facteurs de risque et de protection de la transmission intergénérationnelle de la maltraitance à l’égard des enfants

La transmission intergénérationnelle de la maltraitance survient lorsqu’un enfant maltraité reproduit à son tour, en tant que parent, les comportements maltraitants envers son propre enfant. Les expériences relationnelles traumatiques vécues durant l’enfance entraînent chez l’individu qui devient parent, un risque élevé de perturber la capacité parentale et d’adopter des comportements maltraitants envers l’enfant. Se pencher sur les aspects de transmission intergénérationnelle de la maltraitance nécessite de prendre en compte l’en- semble des paramètres liés au statut de l’enfant, au fonctionnement relationnel des sys- tèmes socio-familiaux qui gravitent autour de lui et au contexte sociétal dans lequel il grandit. À la lumière d’un cas complexe, les cliniciens d’une équipe spécialisée dans les prises en charge de situations de maltraitance d’enfants discutent des facteurs de risque de répétition des inadéquations ainsi que des facteurs de protection pouvant éviter la transmission intergénérationnelle.
