The robustness of watermarking algorithms against common geometrical deformations has drawn the attention of many researchers since ten years already. Today, the design of communication systems that are able to recover from loss of synchronization is still an important challenge. In watermarking, the use of periodical structures has been proposed as a mean to combat such distortions. However, the security implications of this periodicity have not always been properly addressed. In this chapter, we first present a method that generalizes and introduces secrecy in the construction of periodic patterns for watermarking. The resistance against cropping and general affine transforms is presented and the related security issues are discussed.
