The main purpose of this volume is to find out if or to what extent green
parties have remained true to their identity. In this introductory chapter we will first elaborate how green parties might differ from other types of parties as defined by the literature. Secondly, we will list the forces that might cause the parties to change. The country experts are to look for these benchmarks in their historical analysis of individual green parties.
