A chronoamperometric method has been applied to the measurement of the diffusion coefficient of the Co(II) ion in the LiCl-KCl eutectic melt at a temperature of 710 degrees K. An electrode of variable area is described, the advantage of which is the avoidance of inaccuracies connected with the determination of the active area of the electrode. The diffusion coefficient measured by chromoamperometry is of 1.44*10/sup -5/ cm/sup 2//s; this value is in good agreement with those determined by chronopotentiometry.
