The ways of analysing solution chemistry in molecular solvents are extended to ionic liquids at high temperatures. The basic principles of oxidoreduction reactions may be applied to high temperature systems without any change. The concepts of ionotropy and of solvoacidity may be extended to ionic solvents if the autodissociation of the polyatomic ion of the melt is considered in place of that of the molecular solvent. Because of the high viscosity of molten oxides, the kinetics of the diffusion of gaseous reactants has to be taken into account.
