We present conductance and magnetoresistance measurements in magnetic Ni-Ni and Co-Ni nanocontacts prepared by electrodeposition within the pores of a track-etched polymer membrane. At room temperature, Ni-Ni constrictions show broad quantization plateaus of conductance during their dissolution into units of e(2)/h, as expected for ferromagnetic ballistic nanocontacts. Additionally, positive and negative magnetoresistance has been measured in Co-Ni nanocontacts. (C) 2003 American Institute of Physics.
