This intervention is based on the role of architects in the society today. Architecture will be defined not in its usual tasks, that is to manufacture its physical context, but to influence the way society functions. This second role is precisely what utopias do. The presentation is organised in two stages. The first one introduces the concept of utopia through the work of Thomas More who not only coined the notion but also defined its core elements. The second part reflects on the limitations of utopias and how we can address them today to retain their visionary potential.
