Ortigues et le tournant historiciste de la théologie contemporaine

L’article essaie de s’interroger sur la manière dont la thèse de théologie d’Ortigues peut s’avérer signifiante du point de vue d’une histoire de la théologie. Le texte d’Histoire et Parole de Dieu, dans son interrogation sur une question disputée de son temps, à savoir l’articulation entre la source scripturaire et le donné traditionnel, est de fait marqué par une double inquiétude spécifique, théorique et pratique, sur les régimes d’historicité de la théologie. Si on le situe dans une discussion en cours sur le problème théologique de la tradition, on se rend compte que si Ortigues hérite de la manière dont les théologiens des années trente parviennent à renouer avec une approche historique en se mettant à couvert de l’accusation de modernisme, il s’affronte au problème plus spécifique des formes d’histoire qui peuvent permettre l’historicisation du donné traditionnel. HPD apparaît alors comme un lieu où se donnent à voir un certain nombre d’apories du tournant historiciste qui caractérise le moment dans lequel Ortigues s’inscrit, lequel repose sur une mise à distance des évolutions de la pratique historique qui lui sont contemporaines. This article explores the way the Theology Thesis of Ortigues can be significant from the viewpoint of a History of Theology. Histoire et Parole de Dieu, in its questioning a disputed topic in his time – that is, the articulation between scriptural source and the content of tradition – is as a matter of fact marked by a theoretical and practical concern regarding the regimes of Historicity of Theology. By reading HPD within an ongoing discussion on the theological problem of Tradition, we realize that Ortigues inherits an historical methodology that depends on the way theologians in the thirties managed to reconnect with a historical approach while covering themselves against the charge of modernism. Ortigues then specifically confronts the problem of the forms of History that allows for historicizing the content of tradition. HPD thus appears as a revealing attempt to address the shortcomings of the historical turn of theology that Ortigues follows in and continues. This historical turn actually includes a distancing of theology from the contemporary evolutions of historiographical practice.
