Using individual-level data of 15.061 exit entrepreneurs from GEM between 2007 to 2011 in 83 countries, we tested the impact of voluntary and involuntary exit reasons as well as other determinants (human and social capital, fear of failure) on the ex-entrepreneurs’ intention to reenter entrepreneurship after their prior entrepreneurial experience. Our results show that ex-entrepreneurs who have involuntarily exited a prior business are more likely to reenter entrepreneurship in the next three years than those who have voluntarily exited their business.
