European Political debates have not so easily protected « religion and beliefs » as a prohibited ground of discrimination (eg in Belgium in 2003)), but at the end of the day, EU anti-discrimination law imposed member states to adopt religion as such a prohibited ground of discrimination. Nevertheless, this protection remains controversial in a lot of European Countries. Diverse arguments continue to be discussed in public arena in order to narrow the level of protection of religions/beliefs, or at least their « specificity ». Three examples are shortly discussed : Religion as a ideas, behavior, choice, identity, « race »; Conscientious Objection v. Reasonnable accommodation; Incitement to discrimination v. Moral disagreement.
