Engraved by Ramses II in the temple of his father Seti at Abydos, the Dedicatory Inscription gives the description of a coronation of prince Ramses in the presence of his father. Thanks to the light thrown on the subject by the inscription at the back of Horemheb's statue in Turin, it is possible to replace the event in its likely context: the year 1 of Seti’s reign. Having been crowned in Karnak in front of Amun-Ra, king Seti appeared in front of the people to be applauded, and it is in this non-official context that he would have ordered the placing of crowns on the head of his child, as the text says, with his eyes filled with tears.
