In Reproduction in Education, Society and Culture, Bourdieu conceives of the "habitus" as the "product of internalization of the principles of a cultural arbitrary, capable of perpetuating (...)" in practices and evaluations "the principles of the internalized arbitrary" (1977: 31). From a linguistic perspective, we will examine what the key components are of that habitus for Francophone Belgians. This will involve a brief overview of the history of the socio-cultural development of French in Belgium.
