After a brief review of the main ideas as the basis of recent commercial automatic impedance bridges, the paper emphasizes the study of the four-projections measurement method. Several potential error sources are considered, as sensitivity limits, quadrature and timing errors. A short presentation is made of a microprocessor assisted laboratory prototype working at any frequency between 10 Hz and 60 kHz by means of an incorporated synthesizer and offering a basis accuracy of 0.2%.
