It is well known that cationic and anionic substitutions in trioctahedral micas influence considerably their ability to vermiculatization. Up to now the only information concerning this property was obtained on a statistical basis. Using wide line nuclear magnetic resonance, it has been possible to show a partial local ordering of these substitutions which must have a considerable influence on the resistance of micas to alteration.
