The performance evaluation is a significant problem nowadays. Whether it is an evaluation inside the organization with an aim of improving quality or cost, or an external evaluation of the company with an aim of selection (in order to invest for example), the problem is crucial. In this paper, we will be only interested in the external assessment of corporate performance. This question may be tackled by different ways. The point of view we chose in order to treat this issue is that of the credit granting. Indeed, before granting a credit, the banker assess the performance of the enterprise asking for credit. The paper presents a comparison study of the decision tree technique and Rough sets approach. A discussion on similarities and differences among these two methods is given. An application on a set of 1102 Belgian Small and Medium enterprises is described and discussed.
