Haquin, André
Moving from Latin to the vernacular after Vatican II was a challenge taken up by those who shaped the new rituals and the translators of Biblical and liturgical texts into French. Seen through various examples, it appears that the creation, translation and adaptation of texts concerning ritual to diverse cultures and context embodied 'creativity' to various extents. Is translation not more than simply translating ? Does it not run the risk of '(re)-creation'. According to P. Ric"ur, this is a daunting challenge. This would entail foregoing a perfect work, because not undertaking it would be depriving oneself of that 'linguistic hospitality' through which I welcome in my house the words of the stranger.
