// The collection of the “old popular songs” in our areas knew its apogee in the first third of the 20e century. In old Hainaut, and more particularly in Borinage, a ethnomusicologist amateur goes, starting from a share of annotations on the ground and,in a other hand, on the basis of older collection, to find the texts and the melodies of popular songs, of which some that one can date from 17e and 18e centuries. The presentation of the three Christmas carols allows an analysis of the melodies, while that of the four historical songs allows, starting from the texts, an anecdotic reading of facts of history.
