This thesis aims to explain the difference between political expectations and practical outcomes regarding the intelligence sharing within the European Union. Based upon mainstream and more recent European integration theories like constructivist, sociological and governance approaches, it identifies the constraining and facilitating variables and looks at the legal, formal and informal framework of cooperation within the intelligence network with a power (i.e. social capital) focus.
