This thesis compares Ammonia, Methanol and Hydrogen as three possible alternative fuels for decarbonizing shipping. A quantitative analysis enables to determine the utility of each of the fuels, and a quantitative analysis enables to value the costs linked to their adoption. All alternative fuels present advantages and disadvantages and require further research and experimentation in order to overcome the shipowners risk aversion.
