Leçons afghanes

Il 2001 rimarrà nella storia dell’Afghanistan come l’anno che ha segnato l’inizio di una guerra sanguinosa che è durata venti anni. A quasi dieci anni dagli attentati suicidi delle torri gemelle, Usama bin Ladin, il leader di al-Qaida, è stato ucciso dalle forze speciali americane. Eppure, i combattimenti hanno continuato a infuriare per ancora dieci anni. Nell’agosto scorso, la domanda che mi ponevo era : “come questa situazione ha potuto prendere una tale piega ?” Essendo molto interessata alla geopolitica, volevo saperne di più su questa guerra. La rivista Limes ha pubblicato un numero (08/2021) appositamente dedicato a questo argomento. Ho scelto di tradurre l’editoriale e due articoli. La tesi è divisa in tre parti principali. In primo luogo, l’introduzione scritta in italiano tratta dei principali aspetti della guerra tra cui le sue premesse, i suoi protagonisti e le varie operazioni effettuate. La seconda parte è la traduzione dell’editoriale « Dalla Luna alla Terra, via mare », dell’articolo « La lezione del Gulistan, tomba degli italiani » scritto da Federico Petroni e finalmente dell’articolo « Perché e come siamo andati in Afghanistan » di Germano Dottori con l’appendice « L’Italia in Afghanistan: 2001-2021 » di Alberto De Sanctis. Nell’ultima parte, ho fornito spiegazioni sulle mie scelte di traduzione e su diversi elementi presenti nei testi di partenza. La tesi magistrale finisce con una conclusione e una bibliografia. 2001 went down in history as the year which marked the beginning of a 20-year-long deadly war in Afghanistan. Almost 10 years after the 9/11 attacks, al-Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden was killed by US special forces. However, the fighting went on for another 10 years. Last august, I could not help but wonder how this war has taken such a turn ? Being very interested in geopolitics, I wanted to know more about it. The Italian journal Limes published an issue dedicated to this topic. I decided to translate the editorial and two other articles. The thesis is divided in three parts. First of all, the introduction written in Italian deals with the main aspects of the war such as its premises, its protagonists and the various operations carried out. The second part is the translation of the editorial « Dalla Luna alla Terra, via mare », the article « La lezione del Gulistan, tomba degli italiani » written by Federico Petroni and lastly the article « Perché e come siamo andati in Afghanistan » by Germano Dottori as well as the appendix « L’Italia in Afghanistan: 2001-2021 » written by Alberto De Sanctis. In the third part, I will justify my translation choices and examine different elements from the source texts. Finally, the thesis ends with a conclusion and a reference list.
