The thesis examines the applicability of the Varieties of Capitalism framework to publicly funded R&D in the period 2009-2019. It also includes Central Eastern Europe in the analysis. Through abductive research designs it tests the appropriateness of the country categories, the results of which are further tested for their endurance on the 2008 financial crisis response, EU integration in the form of EU funds and election induced change in governmental composition.
