The growing importance of social enterprises raisse the question of how to monitor effectively the performance of these organisations pursuing multiple goals. This thesis aims at outlining what performance is to academics and practitioners and further scrutinizes governance influence on performance comprehension. A comparison of findings resulting from a review of existing knowledge and interviews revealed that the age, size and the composition of the board influences performance understanding and the objective focus.
