This study aims to implement seismic risk in Belgium, using new procedures and tools, in collaboration with international experts and Belgian institutes. The main objective is to develop an exposure model for the city of Liège, in order to provide a realistic overview of the existing buildings, including all possible structural characteristics. The model will then be implemented in the OpenQuake engine, a free and open-source software for the assessment of earthquake hazard and risk, next to hazard and vulnerability data, in order to evaluate seismic risk in Liège. Those results will be compared with recorded data from the 1983 earthquake that occurred in the same place in order to conclude on their reliability. Moreover, a probabilistic risk assessment will be implemented to evaluate risk in Liège in the future.
