This thesis studies the influence on tensile strength of NiTi reinforced aluminum alloy 5754 manufactured by friction stir processing (FSP). Different steps are required to obtain a composite with decent distribution of NiTi particles: optimisation of FSP parameters, tool geometry and powder composition were investigated individually. The last step is tensile testing of Al5754/NiTi composites manufactured by optimised FSP and comparison with a reference sample of aluminum alloy 5754 strengthened by FSP using identical parameters.
