In this master thesis, we investigate the encounter of a small UAV with the wake of a full-scale aircraft, the well-known two-vortex system. The objective is to assess the actual hazard posed to a UAV, as those devices are characterized by quite specific dynamics: small size, light weight and very fast control systems. This project stems from ongoing collaborations with the UCL spin-off company, Wake Prediction Technologies (WaPT). Concretely, this project involves the use of existing opensource control and simulation software for UAV (JSBsim) and subjecting, virtually, the UAV to a prescribed wake.
