This paper examines the bond between the American people and the military of Clausewitz’ Trinity, which is the basis for civil-military relations. The civ-mil gap is being widened by the use of an All-Volunteer Force, engagement in limited war, and reliance of technology. Each variable, in turn, increases the need for the others, which perpetuates the civ-mil divide.
