This thesis aim is to revise scientific background we have about the medical procedure and treatments to reduce the infection risk during a total knee arthroplasty. Total knee arthroplasty procedures are known to increase since the past decades, and it should improve the quality of life of patients when proceeded. Arthrosis is the major pathology that conduct patients to do this procedure even though other diseases exists. Eligibility criteria will be discussed in this work because it is important to be sure that this the best solution for the patient’s health. Infections in this kind of surgery are a major topic that will be part of the thesis, it is important to prevent an infection to start during the perioperative period. This is more important when it comes to the older persons that have comorbidities such as a high body mass index and/or diabetes for example. We’ll focus on how to prevent perioperative infection. Infection can also come postoperatively, diagnostic and care of the patient is also part of the work.
