The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe : sous-titrage commenté de l'adaptation en dessin animé du Monde de Narnia

(eng) This final paper consists of a subtitling of a cartoon directed by Bill Melendez Productions and first broadcast in 1979. The cartoon in question is entitled, in its original version, The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, and it is the adaptation of the first book (in order of publication) of The Chronicles of Narnia. This final paper begins with an introduction written in English, in which I introduce the author of the books on which the cartoon is based, C.S. Lewis. Then, I develop the world of Narnia itself: I analyse the main characters from The Lion, the Witch and the Wadrobe and discuss the themes and symbols present in the book series. The second part of the final paper includes the subtitles I made with their exact time of appearance. Finally, the translation commentary, written in French, concludes this work. In this section, I explain my translation choices as well as the obstacles and difficulties I encountered. I also compare the French dubbed version of the cartoon with my subtitling. In addition to these three main sections, the final paper also includes a preface and a bibliography, as well as an appendix containing the original script of the cartoon.

(fre) Ce mémoire consiste en un sous-titrage d’un dessin animé réalisé par la Bill Melendez Productions et diffusé pour la première fois en 1979. Le dessin animé en question s’intitule, en version originale, The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, et il s’agit de l’adaptation du premier tome (par ordre de publication) du Monde de Narnia. Ce travail commence par une introduction, rédigée en anglais, et dans laquelle je présente l’auteur des livres dont est tiré le dessin animé, C.S. Lewis, pour ensuite développer l’univers de Narnia en lui-même. J’y analyse les personnages principaux présents dans Le Lion, la Sorcière Blanche et l’Armoire Magique, et discute les thèmes et symboles récurrents de la série de livres. La deuxième partie du mémoire reprend les sous-titres que j’ai réalisés et qui sont accompagnés de leur temps d’apparition exact. Enfin, les commentaires de traduction, rédigés en français, concluent ce travail. Dans cette section, j’explique mes choix traductifs ainsi que les obstacles et difficultés que j’ai pu rencontrer. J’y compare également la version doublée en français du dessin animé avec mon sous-titrage. Outre ces trois grandes sections, le mémoire est également constitué d’une préface et d’une bibliographie, ainsi qu’une annexe où se trouve le script original du dessin animé.
